netTerrain FAQ

Answers to our most frequently asked questions

netTerrain is a user-friendly and powerful software platform that helps you make sense of your IT infrastructure. It’s used by some of the world’s largest companies — and one-person IT teams! It comes in two different flavors — netTerrain DCIM and netTerrain Logical. Both of these flavors offer an add-on module for fiber management: netTerrain OSP. You can use netTerrain to keep track of important IT stuff, depending on your flavor: data centers, servers, racks, cables, fiber strands, and circuits. It can even manage Cloud accounts and other apps like Solarwinds and ServiceNow — plus towers, antennas, and manholes, too!

netTerrain DCIM is a flavor of netTerrain: it helps organizations make their data centers efficient. Companies that use netTerrain DCIM need to manage their data center capacity (such as space, racks, power and cooling), track their IT assets and inventory, and untangle cabling spaghetti. It’s web-based and can be installed on-premises or in the Cloud.

netTerrain Logical is a flavor of netTerrain: it helps organizations that need up-to-date documentation and on-demand maps that make sense of the network. Perfect for companies ready to ditch clunky tools like Excel and Visio, netTerrain is web-based and can be installed on-premises or in the Cloud.

netTerrain OSP is an add-on module for netTerrain: it helps organizations simplify fiber management, both inside and outside their facilities. Companies that use netTerrain OSP need to visualize and understand their fiber, simplify circuit design, and plan for capacity, down to the strand level, with precision. netTerrain OSP is an add-on to netTerrain Logical or netTerrain DCIM; it’s web-based and can be installed on-premises or in the Cloud.

netTerrain is a modern n-tiered web-based enterprise-grade software for network and data center documentation that can be deployed in a variety of configurations.

The data tier (database server) and the application tier (application server) can be deployed on the same or on separate (physical or virtual) machines. The netTerrain database can run on any operating system and virtual environment that supports SQL Server 2012 / 2014 / 2016 / 2019 and the application server can run on any Windows operating system and virtual environment that supports IIS 8.0 or better and .NET 4.5.

These specifications may not yield a fast-performing system if there is a high volume of activity associated with other applications or database systems running in parallel.
